Black crowned night herons are very tame at the LA Arboretum. In the last couple shots, I could have reached out and touched this guy. Lots of people feed the ducks at this place and if you drop some food into the water you'll get a gathering of turtles, koi and small fish as well. This is where the night heron comes in. He waits for the fish to come to the water's edge and then strikes. I've also seen the heron's swim around like a duck here!
