Saksun pano

Saksun is a village near the northwest coast of the Faroese island of Streymoy, it has only 14 residents (as of 2014) and lies in the bottom of what used to be a sea inlet, surrounded by high mountains. The inlet formed a good deep natural harbor, until a storm blocked it with sand. The old harbor become an inaccessible seawater lagoon, only accessible by small boats on high tide.

The village has a church which was originally built in Tjørnuvík, but in 1858 it was disassembled, carried over the mountains and reassembled in Saksun so the residents wouldn’t have to travel so far for church services.

The village contains a quaint, gorgeous and quintessentially Faroese house, its red and black with a grass roof but over the past few years the owner has unfortunately had to deal with an influx of tourists and bloggers jumping over the very clearly marked fence and trampling through a few fields in order to shove their cameras up against his windows, do Instagram shoots at his front door, and generally just be pests.
