The town of Walvis Bay overlooks a large and sheltered bay. The early Portogues mariners sailed along the coast of Namibia and when they discovered the great bay they named it "Baia das Baleias", the Bay of Wales, in Afrikaans "Walvis Bay", due to the large number of these magnificient creatures.
The waling fleets hunted wales in Namibia and other southern waters and slaughtered them nearly till they become extinct. Recent years have seen an increase in wales sighting off Walvis Bay, but it is not sure you'll see them. Certainly you'll see Cape fur seals, dolphins and pelicans.
