The Yellow-headed Caracara is is a new-world falcon ranging from southern Central America south to every mainland South American Country.
A single rare vagrant was observed at the Wilmington Delaware seaport onNovember 19, 20, 21, 22 2025.This is farthest north this species has ever been sighted. Two subspecies are recognised: 1) Daptrius chimachima cordatus from the savanna of southwestern Costa Rica through South America including Trinidad, to Brazil north of the Amazon River 2) Daptrius chimachima chimachima Brazil south of the Amazon River to eastern Bolivia, Paraguay and Northern Argentina. The subspecies of the vagrant bird was not determined.
