Tufted Puffin (Fratercula cirrhata)

This puffin is larger than the other puffin species and has a bold white mask and golden head plumes in the breeding season.
The conservation status of this puffin was listed in 2016 by the IUCN as of "Least Concern".
However, the numbers have decreased greatly in recent years.
The state of Washington listed it as an endangered species in 2015.
The population decline is thought to be due to changes in the distribution and abundance of
forage fish due to overfishing and climate change.
Fishing nets also kill thousands of Tufted Puffins each year.
