This pair of kits were observed near their den over a period of several weeks in Auburn, Alabama.
An average of 4 to 8 kits are born March-May in a maternity den. After several weeks, they play above ground and feed on what is brought to them by their parents. Kits disperse at 4 months, males up to 150 miles or more away, females less widely. Adults also disperse, remaining solitary until the next breeding season.
