The Pacific Golden-plover or "Kolea" is an abundant winter visitor to Maui. Adults return from arctic nesting grounds in August, and immatures in late September. Most leave by early May, but a few, usually first-year birds, may oversummer. Formerly considered as a subspecies of the Lesser Golden Plover (P. dominica)
