This bird is suffering from mycoplasmal conjunctivitis, an eye disease of finches.
Infected birds have red, swollen, watery, or crusty eyes. In extreme cases, the
eyes become swollen shut or crusted over, and the birds essentially become blind.
The pathogen involved is Mycoplasma gallisepticum
