This puffin is similar to the Atlantic Puffin although it spends most if its year on the high seas of the northern Pacific. Unlike other puffin species, the Horned Puffin typically nests in rock crevices and cliffs. Contrary to the Atlantic Puffin, the conservation status of this species is of "Least Concern"(IUCN, 2016). Nevertheless, the population is suspected to be in decline due to predation by invasive species and ongoing habitat destruction (IUCN).
