Atlantic Puffins have returned to nest at Eastern Egg Rock, Petit Manan and Seal Islands after many years of absence. However, they are globally vulnerable according to the IUCN Red List. The "vulnerable" category is just one position above the "endangered" category in IUCN nomenclature. This species is highly susceptible to climate change, shifts in prey distribution due to unsustainable exploitation of fish species, and marine pollution.
These photos were taken during a boat trip to Petit Manan Island off the coast of Maine between Dyer Bay and Pigeon Hill Bay. Boat trip provided Captain Jamie Robertson of Robertson Sea Tours, Milbridge, Maine.
