On July 1, 1997, Hong Kong reverted from England to the People's Republic of China. Since then, it's been 'business as usual'. On my recent trip there in November 2004, I asked several people whether they had noticed any real differences in their lives. Other than the normal fluctuations in the economy, the general consensus was that nothing really had changed. In fact, to me, it seemed like HK was bustling just as much as before with a great number of new and pretty fantastic buildings having been and in the process of being built.
