Lisa's Blankets

These are photos showing some of the blankets that I have made starting in 2004 (a new hobby for me). Most blankets show 2-3 photos; one showing the whole blanket, followed by one or more showing a close-up section of it. All the various patterns came from my own head, none are perfect but all are unique. Most of them are arranged with crocheted ones together and then sewn ones together and within that, I've tried to keep all the girl ones together and likewise with the boy ones. At the end are photos of the recipients using them.

This was my second one made and has a big flaw in the overall shape of it (that I learned later what I did wrong). The yarn is soft chenille-feeling and so cuddly! Gracie loves curling up in it.

Although it's not noticeable in this photo, I made this blanket with three different brands of pink yarn. I tried to make each square a different pattern. This blanket is similar to the one with primary colors and is also reversible. This photo shows the side with the seams open and facing you.

This is the back (or smooth) side. I made loopy pom-poms and attached at the four, interior corners.

A new style I created. I chained a long strand and then wove it in-and-thru the open row, tying the ends in a bow in one corner.

Not noticeable but I used 2 types of pink yarn. Both were the same color but one had a mat-look whereas the other had a shiny thread running thru it.

Making the whole blanket out of the same (open) stitch makes it breathe very easily when it's across your body. Had it been all (closed) stitches I think it would have been too hot to have on for long.

I didn't use a very good background for this photo. It's hard to tell but the dark blue in the border is very thick and bubbly-looking. It took as much yarn for it as the entire light blue inside square, and as much time to do as well.

Still hard to see in this close-up photo but the navy is more of a thickly-gathered ruffle.

This starts blankets that are gender-generic. This was my first baby blanket for Gracie. The outside shape didn't come out right but I learned what I did wrong (after I had finished it) from my Aunt Sharon. It is more the size to cover an adult while sitting in a rocker/glider.

Photo showing the whole thing. After I'd finished the whole thing I saw I had made 1 mistake on the pattern of the piece lay-out. Two bricks are in the reverse order from what they should be. Each remnant piece within one of the 3 colors is all the same material but the soft, velvety style of material makes it appear as though there are varying shades of light brown, dark brown and burgundy; there are really only 3 total colors used.

Made for a very good friend's 50th birthday. (Shown on our couch.) This yarn is so incredibly SOFT and lightweight that it made the perfect light-weight, cuddly couch afghan. Very simply done in the same stitch throughout (her choice)

A close-up of his name block. I crocheted a double layer for the white background and then stitched the letters just thru the top layer, so that the back of the blanket just has an all-white center block. Hard to tell but just the white center square (double-sided) was over 3,000 stitches and took almost as long to crochet just that square as the rest of the entire blanket did alone!

The following pictures are ALL things I made during a 1-week vacation by myself. There were more things that didn't fit on the leftside bed that are on 2 adjacent chairs and small table. (Things on the right bed were materials not yet made in to anything.) I made these during my one and only (alone) vacation. I didn't have any set reason in mind for making them other than I'm not a TV person and it would fill my time. As I was driving home from that vacation, I got a phone call from a previous co-worker, asking if I'd like to make/sell things in a shop she was about to open. What timing!! So, there are photos of my handmade things in her shop later in this gallery. (Unfortunately, her shop was only open for about 4 months.)

A unique blanket that's 4 layers of flannel stacked on top of each other and then sewn every 1/2 with parallel seams (2 quarters in each direction). Afterwards, cut up between each seam (of only the top 3 layers of flannel), ruffle the material up with your hands and wash. The result is a thick, chenille-type feeling on top.

The material I used to make this Gracie's Quilt of Many Colors is called minky chenelle. It is incredibly soft!!! I used remnants given to me from a (new) friend. The blanket is rectangle although the way it's laying on the couch makes it appear hour-glass.

A requested matching (extra large) neck scarf and matching ski beanie hat. The beanie has a chain stitch woven along the bottom row (closest to the neck/ears), that can be tightened and then tied in a bow to make the beanie less-likely to come of when skiing. It's hard to see it but that bow is on the bottom left corner of the hat in this photo.

Baby Emmie is swaddled in the second baby blanket I ever made, which was made for her older sister, Sophia (lying next to her) before Sophia was born. Sadly to say I lost the picture Sophia's Mom sent me of Sophia wrapped in it when she was a littlebaby, but at least I have a picture of it (as a hand-me-down while they await the one I'm making especially for Emmie). Welcome to our family Emmanuelle Marie (Emmie)! ;-)
