My original travel day was to fly out of Austin in to SFO, have a 1.5 hour layover and then fly on to Seattle. As we were taxing in to the gate at SFO my seatmate checked her messaged and found out her connecting flight to Seattle (the same one I was to be on) had been cancelled. So after disembarking and getting re-scheduled on a flight that left 2.5 hours later, I went to that gate. Not long after, this service dog and his handler came around, asking passengers if they would like to meet "Toby", a mix between a Golden Retriever and a French Poodle. I accepted and visited briefly with the handler. In doing so, I found out that the airport had asked her to specifically come to our gate because they knew there were a bunch of us that had all just been notified that our original flight was cancelled and now had an additional hour to wait. Thinking we might be "stressed", her service dog was asked to go around and make friends, in hopes of calming us a bit. I also found out from her that this whole wing of the terminal had just opened up a couple of months ago and in addition to Toby's services being used, this new wing also had a free "Yoga room", for passengers who wanted to stretch and unwind a bit between flights. Wow, what innovative ideas they have overall and TOTALLY impressed me!!!
