Over the next half-hour, Dave and I made at LEAST 5 calls between each other, trying to belay my fears that I was heading in the wrong direction. During our phone calls, we would use the sun and river's position to us, to see if we thought we were headed towards each other. I was getting more afraid all the time that I was going in the WRONG direction, had no water with me, only my iPad, phone and a whistle. Also, there were several trails all parallel to the river and each other, but at different elevations. I worried that Dave and I were headed towards each other but at different elevations and might accidentally "pass each other" unknowingly. When I finally saw him, just ahead in the trees, I gave a huge HALLELUJAH shout to him!
