Light Zone

I read an article about using spot metering and the zone system to get better in-camera exposures.
I've been getting sloppy lately, just shooting in RAW and letting the camera guess for me. I think
this month I will try to be more thoughtful and deliberate when I shoot, and use my in-brain meter
more than I usually do.

For instance when there are relatively small high white areas in a shot, you underexpose instead of overexpose relative to incidental light, like the white heron shots I did today.http://www.pbase.com/image/75070355 With the white blossom shots I was going on the incidental light value of my brainmeter and again underexposed for the bright whites - http://www.pbase.com/image/75070347 In the first case the camera would've overexposed, in the second, it would've underexposed. If you had used reflected light to measure, of course dominating white like the blossoms would require the opposite - +compensation, because the camera would tend to close down too much. The whole body gets involved.
