Here's a shot of Hector and his big eyes. They may look cute, but their cause is something all cat
lovers should know about. Hector has chronic kidney issues, and was put on Baytril 68mg tablets
to treat this. We noticed after a few days that his pupils were getting completely dilated and
he could not see very well. We took him to another vet, and they pointed out the culprit. The
Baytril can cause blindness in cats in even moderate doses. Hector only took 4 pills, and has still
not completely recovered. The vet reports no permanent damage, but time will tell. Two weeks later,
he cannot judge distances correctly due to the dilation and has problems jumping on places he
regularly did before. His eyes do constrict in light, but not as much as they should.
If your vet prescribes Baytril for your cat, please ask him or her to use something else. While it
only effects a small number of cats, the risk isn't worth it.
