April 1 2005

This used to be the best technology show on television, period. It was on a little channel called
ZDTV, which was bought out first by Paul Allen and renamed TechTV. Last year, TechTV was bought by
G4 and became G4TV. All the best shows like Call For Help, The Screen Savers, Fresh Gear and the
like were remade in G4's image, or cancelled outright. Lots of very talented people were either
fired or quit when the channel moved its headquarters from San Francisco to Los Angeles. Leo
Laporte, the mastermind behind the best shows, was able to move Call For Help to TechTV Canada.
The Screen Savers continued, but was never as good, and was finally renamed Attack of the Show
this week. R.I.P. ScreenSavers. You were the best show on TV.

Just thought I'd let you know about the podcasts on Leo's site by the old techtv crew. Kevin Rose has also finally left and they are starting another web show in addition to the broken. It's called the systm.org. Hopefully this will fill some of your tech needs. I miss them too.

Leo Laporte and TechTV, Screen Savers, Call For Help all ruled. I used to only watch it about 10 hourse per week, but that is 11 more than I'll watch G4 or G4TV or whatever they call it. Leo and the gang used to teach you how to use all things computer, and how to use the Internet, but the G4TV thing "makes" you use the Internet INSTEAD of watching their dribble.

I second your comments completely! A classic case of how to "screw" something up.
Good commentary!
