Great Horned Owl

near Mittry Lake

This image is cropped way way in.. but how exciting for me anyway! Today while driving the road where the Bighorn Sheep were seen, I saw this huge owl come up into this tree from the canal. It sat there with it's back to me for quite some time, in the shade.

I got out the tripod and 2x converter for my 200mm lens, trying not to pout about how badly I want a longer lens. I was excited just to see this owl when I zoomed in to know it truely was what I thought. Anyway.. it is a beauty. I sat with eyes closed and just rested. It was still there as I drove off, knowing I got the best shot I could.

My, he's a handsome dude! Nice shot...even if you thought you had inadequate tools. Honor

Great capture.. how exciting to see this Great Horned Owl.. so different from the burrowing owls we see mostly.
