BURROWING OWL

Punta Gorda, Florida

Burrowing Owls are so named because they live underground in burrows that have been dug out by small mammals such as ground squirrels and gophers. They are one of the smallest species of owls in North America, standing about 9 inches tall and weighing about 6 ounces.
