Originally from Tenafly, New Jersey. I have been living in Sarasota, Florida for 18 years. I worked in marine biological research for Columbia University at the Lamont-Dougherty Earth Observatory, and later was a biology teacher in Hillsdale, New Jersey for 32 years. Since retiring in 1994, my wife Pat and I have traveled to over 30 countries. One of my favorite countries for wlldlife photography is Costa Rica, which we have visited many times.
Currently, I am shooting with a Canon EOS 7D and a Canon EF 100-400mm F4.5-5.6 L IS USM lens. This is the 35mm equivalent of 160-640mm, using the 1.6 crop factor for the sensor. I use a Canon 1.4X extender for long shots.
Many of my Florida bird shots were taken in Myakka River State Park. This is one of Florida's largest and most diverse wildlife areas. The Myakka River flows through 58 square miles of wetlands, prairies, hammocks and pinelands. This park is only twenty minutes from my home in the Palmer Ranch, so I visit it frequently.
While photographing wading birds, other animals, mostly alligators, are encountered. This gallery will contain shots of some of them.
