SNOWY EGRET (Egretta thula) IMG_1751

Venice, Florida

This species was nearly wiped out during the turn of the last century. The prominent head, neck and back plumes of breeding adults made it a prime target for plume hunters. Fortunately, the Snowy has made a remarkable comeback from drastically low numbers. Nesting begins in March or April and continues until August.
