Jasper, "Quick" POIs (2021)

I made this "quick" page to show a quick summary of some of the best spots, with an emphasis on ones that have spots for jumping in the water from a high spot, or at least from an edge--as opposed to spots where you merely stroll into the water casually. There are way more spots than just these, this is a quick summary of what I feel are possibly the best ones. If you wish to view ALL of the spots in great detail (warning, it's in GREAT detail), I have a page with those details here.

Many of these spots were derived from the book I bought at the ranger's office (buy this book or view as PDF), if so, I denote the page number beside the description. Other spots can be found at SwimmingHoles`Org (but again, my page has all of this information).

The location of the spots is documented via GPS coordinates, which helps eliminate the issues of how GPS units (or Google Maps) may misinterpret addresses. You can enter GPS coordinates into almost anything, and they're very universal in nature. The spots are also given a clickable Google Maps link, simply click on them from this page within a phone (Android) and Google Maps will immediately plug the spot for you.

For manual entry of the coordinates, they're given in a format likely to be entered into a Garmin Nuvi, in degrees-minutes-seconds format. If you don't know how to enter coordinates in a GPS like a Garmin Nuvi, this video will show you how. (The Google Maps links also show the coordinates, in "decimal degrees" format.)

You can go to my MAIN Jasper page here.

-------------------------------------------------------
Cabin (Dogwood Springs)
Phone: 870-446-2163

Coordinates: N 36° 01' 13" W 093° 10' 33"
Google Maps Link (36.020278, -93.175833)

Obviously you need a place to stay. This is where we stay every year. The cabins can be small, especially the kitchen, and Jasper is a very small town, so it helps to have a plan (bring a portable gas grill, for instance). It has a small pool with a slide, and is less than half a mile from a grocery store (Harp's).

-------------------------------------------------------
Pruitt (p80)
Coordinates: N 36° 03' 38" W 093° 08' 20"
Google Maps Link (36.060798,-93.138974)

High jumping spots. This is where you park. The spot itself involves some looking around. Hike underneath the road to the right, the best jumping spots are in that area.

-------------------------------------------------------
Falling Water Waterfalls (p44)
Coordinates: N 35° 43' 19" W 092° 56' 57"
Google Maps Link (35.721940,-92.949440)

A favorite of those who like jumping into cooler water from decent highs, has a waterfall about 20 ft high people jump from, rope swing and ladder for climbing. Cell phone service almost non existent there so plan accordingly.

NOTE: the best way to get there from Jasper is to take ARK 7 South then turn onto ARK 16 east, then follow the GPS directions from there. (Leaving this spot, make your way to ARK 16 then head WEST until it comes onto ARK 7 then head north.) Some GPS units may have you go down a road #33. DO NOT DO THAT, this is a very gravel-y and poor condition road and that route doesn't save any time anyway.

-------------------------------------------------------
Ponca (p68)
Coordinates: N 36° 01' 07" W 093 21' 25"
Google Maps Link (36.01870,-93.35710)

Good short jumps from a short bridge. Jumps aren't very high but there's plenty of room. Dylan & Madison did backflips there last year.

-------------------------------------------------------
Big Spring (p50)
Coordinates: N 36° 15' 57" W 092° 32' 35"
Google Maps Link (36.2661,-92.5431)

A rope-swing spot in the city limits, not a very quiet spot. Not a favorite of mine as I found the water shallow, but if your thing is road swinging and you can manage the shallower water, this is a spot many seem to find fun.

-------------------------------------------------------
Longpool (p38)
GPS Coordinates: N 35° 32' 59" W 093° 09' 43"
Google Maps Link (35.55, -93.1622)

A spot about an hour from Jasper that has a large rock platform from which people jump into the water, you have to make your way out to it from the shore.

-------------------------------------------------------
Lee Creek (p16)
Coordinates: N 35° 42' 11" W 094° 19' 37"
Google Maps Link (35.70333,-94.32722)

Good spots for jumps but about 2 hrs from Jasper well out of the way. The spot given is not where you park, look around for parking, but you will easily see the area from the spot given.
