The goal today was to hit the "Falling Waterfalls" area. Cedar Creek (a new "Gez Rogers" spot), Longpool, Illinois Bayou (another new "Gez Rogers" spot) Ft Douglas, "New" Blue Hole (near "Wolf Den") were all on the list of possibilities.
On the way, intending to grab a quick breakfast at McDonalds, we instead came across a small diner "on the fly" right in town, and ate there. It was a very pleasant experience (naturally I marked the coordinates). I especially laughed at its name, "Marshall Restaurant," how quaint. The food was good. It reminded me a lot of Sharon K's in Jasper.
We went to Falling Waterfalls, which was definitely not empty as it was in 2022, but it was cold even for me (but Helen still jumped a couple of times). The other spots I wanted to go to, they seemed interesting, but they were a pretty good distance away (and the roads in this area were CURVY, which gets on my nerves after awhile). While I was deciding what to do, my wife found yet another "New Blue Hole" spot different than the one we always visit (Troy Eddings) or the other new one she'd found which was also pretty far away (near "Wolf Den"). This one was close so we went. The swimming was poor but we later learned this spot was also a new Gez Rogers spot called "Blue Hole at Victor," only they had different coordinates and unlike the shallow water we encountered, theirs seemed to show a deep hole--again, something we learned later. Regardless I did get some good shots. I was hungry, and "Bridget's Burgers" (a nearby eating spot I'd found) was closed, so she found a new BBQ places called Slim's (which as it turns out I'd already found out about myself). We ate there and got replenished.
From there we did go to the Illinois Bayou spot. We found a different spot about 0.2 on the right prior to the spot given by the coordinates. It was more private and scenic, and did have a few deep spots. The actual spot (again 0.2 more miles on the right) was in fact better, a large deep spot with a low jumping platform, exactly what I'd like, but it wasn't as scenic, and it was overrun with young hooligans on that day. After leaving there, we ate at the pizza place in Marshall, and got gas at the Harp's; the clerk was funny and was loving my jokes (I'd seen her the night before as well), so wanting to remember that interaction, I took a photo of her.
