The north side. 1 Restoration Info

Subotica, Serbia

Serbian is the only standard European language using two written forms. It uses both the Cyrillic and Latin alphabets. The sign is written in the Latin form of Serbian.

The top left indicates that this is part of the Hungary-Serbia cross-border cooperative program, the top right that it is co-financed by the European Union. The restoration is part of a project entitled, “Jewels at the turn of centuries, journey through the wonderful world of Art Nouveau,” and given the acronym DIAMOND.

The completion date is listed as 30 April 2014. These photos were taken a week before that date. The roof, the dome and the backside were completed and work on the front was in progress. The sides and interior showed no noticeable signs of restoration.

At the bottom right: “Good neighbors create a common future.”

The next day the Tourist Info Center arranged for me to have full access to the interior. I found out that the European Union had just awarded additional funds which allow the restoration to continue.
