Breaking the ice on the Rideau

Stanley Park, Ottawa

The ice-breaking operation on the Rideau River is a lengthy job, but necessary to prevent flooding of adjacent properties. In the background you can the amphibious excavator breaking the ice. An old clip from 2014 explains the process and shows this breaker at work: https://ottawa.ctvnews.ca/breaking-the-ice-on-the-rideau-river-1.1761406

Our hometown has one as well, we call it 'la grenouille'. Sure works well to break ice jams that cause floods. Nice shot of all the activity there.
