Grapeleaf skeletonizing moth caterpillars

Mer Bleue area

This species has been abundant this year, first as the adult (moth) and now as the larvae. I rarely see the moths and have seen the larvae only a handful of times, so to suddenly see so many moths and now, caterpillars, is quite amazing. Most insects have peaks and lows in their populations, and this is clearly a peak year for them. They are on wild grape which is abundant along this particular trail, almost every 4th or 5th tree is draped with masses of the vine.

Encore une photo fantastique et si originale.
Voir toutes ces chenilles dévorant la même feuille doit être rare à observer.

Devastating they may be, but they do make a striking border for the leaf, V

That leaf doesn't stand a chance. But I wonder too whether most of the caterpillars stand a chance because that's not much leaf each, or do they migrate to other leaves.

Wow! Incredible. Like an invading army. The poor plant doesn't stand a chance!
