Sawfly cocoon

Larose Forest

This artfully and beautifully constructed cocoon is made by a sawfly, and I am guessing it could probably be from the European sawfly, Diprion similis, since it was on White Pine. These little cocoons are quite common, found on various plants, and made by various sawfly species.
