Silver-spotted skipper butterfly larva (argyreus clarus)

Larose Forest

Two larvae together. This is a native skipper butterfly, but it is feeding on Black Locust (Robinia pseudoacacia)which is considered an invasive tree species here. The tree, however, is native further south, and it obviously does very well here. Which benefits not only these skippers, but a variety of other insects that are closely associated with the tree.

there's a tubby tag team, and so precisely delineated...black locust trees, so wonderfully craggy, are actually planted out here, with a few very tall ones at Kits Beach for instance
