This unusual looking butterfly caterpillar is working its way along the stem of a black locust leaf. Normally, these larvae create a shelter by folding some leaves together and feeding from within the shelter. However, every so often they need to move to another feeding area, as this one was doing. I found 24 of these larvae that day, the most I've ever found in one place. They are picky about what they eat, usually either hog peanut leaves, or the leaves of black locust.
