Rosy maple moth (Dryocampa rubicunda, #7715

At home

This is the only member of the Giant Silkworm moths (Saturnidae) that I have seen in my garden, and only once. This is not particularly large as silkmoths go, in fact quite small for members of this family, this one measuring around 35mm. In Larose Forest these moths can be numerous and sometimes show much more pink than this one does: https://pbase.com/laroseforest/image/167618574 In some regions these moths are a brilliant pink.

You've opened my eyes to the Moth-world Christine. I never realized that there were so many varieties. This is another beauty, well captured.
