This large caterpillar was on the underside of an American elm leaf. From a distance I thought it was just a dead leaf. It unfortunately has a big cluster of Parasitic fly (Tachinid) eggs on its head (on the right) which will kill it. These larvae, if they live, will turn into very large sphinx moths the following year https://pbase.com/laroseforest/image/167648719).
