Elegant tailed slug moth caterpillar (Packardia elegans), #4661

Larose Forest

I spent a lot of time in the forest yesterday looking for slug moth caterpillars, hoping to find the Spiny Oak Slug moth caterpillar which I've seen only once before, but no luck. I did find two other species, including two of these tiny ones on yellow birch. To see the moth it becomes: https://pbase.com/laroseforest/image/169482309

Fine detail in this great capture. I can see how the moth might have gotten its sparkly appearance. V.
