Modest sphinx (Pachysphinx modesta), #7828

Larose Forest

I can't think of a better to celebrate the beginning of summer than with a night of mothing. A group of 20 met in Larose Forest to do just this, and were treated to the sight of hundreds and hundreds of moths fluttering around the 6 sets of lights as well as the nearby trees. This particular moth is a very large sphinx moth whose span would cover my hand.

A very pretty moth. I love the texture and the muted tones. I wish I could see a moth that large in person. V.
