Cellophane bee (Colletes inequalis)

Reveler Conservation Area

Another sign of spring is the emergence of native bees. This one nests in burrows in the ground. They are solitary bees, meaning each bee creates its own nest (rather than nesting colonially like honey bees) but form large aggregations. They are an important pollinator. They are about the size of a honey bee.
