Snowshoe hare (Lepus americanus)

Ottawa West

Sitting perfectly still under a rocky outcrop, hoping he hasn't been detected. It was a sheer fluke that I happened to notice this hare at all, as I'd scanned the site a couple of times before finally noticing him. Sitting so still is how hares try to avoid discovery, running off in a zig-zag fashion only at the last minute.
