Ebony boghaunter dragonfly (Williamsonia fletcheri)

Larose Forest

This small dragonfly may not look exciting but it is pretty rare in this region and I was delighted to find it today. I didn't immediately know which species it was, and only when I got home and checked field guides did I suspect it to be the ebony boghaunter. Thanks to C. Lewis who confirmed that it is. According to NatureServe Canada, this species is considered to have a conservation status of Vulnerable in Canada.

Amazing how quickly you go from icy cold to warm enough for Dflies.
Even in late summer we they are scant hereeven though we have mild winters.
Congrats on the find and the nice photo.
