Bee fly (Lepidophora lutea)

Larose Forest

These are the most unusual looking flies! They differ not only from other flies, but from flies within their own family, Bombyliidae. This one is nectaring on a black-eyed susan. Their larvae are kleptoparasites on wasps in several families, that is they steal the food the wasps have prepared for their own young!

Quelle splendide macro. L'insecte en équilibre sur la fleur se détache magnifiquement.
