Goldenrod gall moth (Epiblema scudderiana), #3186

Fletcher Wildlife Garden

Easy to see why this moth is sometimes called a bird-dropping moth because it looks a lot like a bit of bird scat. Needless to say, it hopes to fool would-be predators. These are the moths that are responsible for the elliptical galls in goldenrod stems.

indeed it does have a certain don't-touch-or-you-will-regret-it appearance..
