Large yellow underwing moth caterpillar (Noctua pronuba), #11003.1

At home

Raking up leaves today, I came across this moth caterpillar, which I moved to a pile of leaf litter at the back of the garden where it can overwinter. I have many of these moths around during the summer. To see what the moths look like: http://www.pbase.com/laroseforest/image/163905505 and http://www.pbase.com/laroseforest/image/154790031

Nicely done!

The idea of an over-wintering caterpillar is quite intriguing as they seem to be the most delicate of immature life stages.
