Bottle gentian (Gentiana andrewsii)

Larose Forest

Sometimes called Closed Gentian, for obvious reasons - the flowers do not open as one would expect from looking at this plant. Not many insects can get inside these flowers but I have watched bumble bees do so, and they may be one of the few insects that pollinates the bottle gentian.

beautiful and nicely captured plant !

That's an interesting way of ensuring specificity of pollinators thus, one might guess, increasing the chances of pollen arriving at the right species! The plant has a striking multi-layered appearance.

That is a interesting plant! Makes me wonder what it would look like if it did open...
