Jumping spider (Phidippus purpuratus), female

Reveler Conservation Area

Lifted up a rock to see if anything was hiding under it, and there was this very large (for a jumping spider, but otherwise a small spider!) female Phidippus. I love jumping spiders, they are cute and they are feisty, or so it seems, in the way they confront one by lifting their heads to stare at the intruder.

Neat shot of this guy. Looks like an old man staring at the camera. (Excuse the anthropomorphizing here.) Vote.

Wow, what a face! Reminds me of an African mask. You have courage to be photographing creatures like these!
