Rose-breasted grosbeak, male

Reveler Conservation Area

You can tell these birds are tropical! They don't look as if they belong in our northerly climate. In fact, they spend more of their lives in the new world tropics, than up here. They come north only to breed, returning south in early autumn. This one is having some water provided by a volunteer who makes sure there is enough fresh water during the summer months.

Handsome! The arrangement and shades of colour are remarkably similar to those of our Scarlet Robin.

A real beauty. I find water is almost a bigger draw than seed on hot days.

What a pretty bird, and yes, looks like it belongs in the tropics. Nicely captured in a great pose. V.
