Cardinal flower (Lobelia cardinalis)

This beautiful exotic looking flower is a native plant, found along creeks and streams and other damp places. It attracts hummingbirds.

A red lobelia! Very striking. I thought they were all blue. There's one flowering hereabouts at the moment, a strange little thing that dies off at ground level then flowers as a small single stalk using moisture in the somewhat succulent stem.
