Ochre dagger moth caterpillar (Acronicta morula), #9236

Larose Forest

This caterpillar, like many, creates a silken shelter in which to feed. And again, like many caterpillars, it can vary in appearance depending on the instar. The last instar is quite radically different.

It seems to be suspended in a rather sparse shelter which hardly seems like protection?? Fascinating.
