Round-headed apple borer beetle (Saperda candida)

Reveler Conservation Area

A really beautifully patterned beetle, fairly large and with those long antennae that give this group of beetles their name (Longhorned beetles: Cerambycidae) According to Bug Guide, the larvae feed on the wood of apple trees, while the adults eat the leaves. This one is on a hawthorn next to an apple tree, and hawthorns, apples, mountain ash and some other species are favoured by this beetle.
