Blinded sphinx caterpillar (Paonias excaecathus), #7824

Reveler Conservation Area

One day, early autumn, there were at least four of these beautiful caterpillars along a trail. The 'horn' is at the bottom end, so this one is hanging upside down, or head-first. If you look closely you can see tiny little feet at the bottom end, near the head which is retracted in this shot.

What a fascinating body, and I agree, jewel-like. A beautiful capture, and I like the repetition of colors throughout. V.

What an ornate looking caterpillar. Love its textures and patterns and the "horn" part. V.
