Snowberry clearwing caterpillar (Hemaris diffinis), #7855

This pretty caterpillar was feeding on tartarian honeysuckle, an introduced and often invasive shrub. The snowberry clearwing shows a distinct fondness for honeysuckle plants of all types. I have seen and photographed the more common green colour phase of this species, but today was the first time I found the brown one. The moth is a familiar one to many as it can appear in gardens, parks, and anywhere there are flowers to nectar on. It is often mistaken for a hummingbird because of its habits.
