Blinded sphinx caterpillar (Paonias excaecathus), #7824

Mer Bleue Conservation Area. Checking under american elm leaves, I came across this beauty. You can see my finger in the background, trying to hold the leaf still in the wind, and from that you can see the caterpillar is not terribly big. These caterpillars, like so many, are very variable in colour and pattern. Some have red spots, othrs have a red 'horn', some are blue-green.
