Maple looper caterpillar (Parallelia bistriaris) #8727

This caterpillar was found on the trunk of a red maple (Acer rubrum), one of its preferred host trees. The adults are commonly found, the caterpillars are more difficult to find because of their excellent camouflage. To see a photo of the adult this will become:
