Sawfly (Onycholyda luteicornis)

Found in the Sandhills area in Constance Bay. This species belongs to the Webspinning and Leafrolling Sawfly family(Pamphiliidae). The larval host is plants in the Rubus family.

I should have added that this sawfly is not a fly, but is in the bee and wasp family, Hymenoptera. They are called sawflies because, according to Steve Marshall, the females "have a sawlike ovipositor that flips down like a jackknife to saw into, and lay eggs in, leaf edges or stems."
